Overview

Combining a passion for fine wine, entrepreneurial savvy and technology expertise, Eric Vogt founded eProvenance to assure the provenance of every bottle of fine wine. With expertise in wine and spirits, RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) technology and the Internet, the eProvenance team is uniquely qualified to build the definitive global database to authenticate the Provenance of the world's fine wines and spirits.

About

Eric has assembled the technology and team to assure provenance by placing active RFID tags in cases, passive RFID tags on each bottle, and neck seals with covert ink around the base of each capsule, all tied in to a comprehensive on-line data base. The bottle is secured, the contents are secured, and temperature history can be tracked for each case shipment.

Provenance Concerns

  • Storage temperatures of fine wine and spirits during shipment vary widely and are seldom monitored or recorded.
  • Bottles and cases of fine wine and spirits sold at retail seldom have a verifiable pedigree, in terms of either their journey to retail or their temperature history.
  • As the price of fine wine has increased, counterfeit wine has become more prevalent.
  • Wine consumers have had no way of verifying Provenance, and no way of independently assuring the next buyer that the wine has been properly stored in a temperature-controlled cellar.
  • The most critical component of certifiable value to the consumer, Provenance, in terms of authenticity, traceability, and storage temperatures, is anecdotal at best and completely unverifiable.

eProvenance Solution

  • An ePedigree for every bottle of fine wine or spirits. A temperature-sensing and recording active RFID tag on each case, a passive RFID bottle identifier on each bottle, a proprietary, tamper-proof neck seal with a covert code at the base of each capsule, all three registered with their unique numbers in a high-speed, encrypted online database.
